We believe that Pitman deserves a community that is safe for everyone, and access to justice should not depend on wealth, health or the color of one’s skin. We want Pitman to be a model of community health and security, in which everyone who lives, works, or visits is treated with dignity and respect.
The history of policing in the United States is deeply entwined with racist violence. From slave patrols to Jim Crow to the War on Drugs, policing has been used as a means of denying equal justice to people of color in the United States. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner are recent examples of a system that is sick, and needs to change.
Police Accountability
Join us to help hold police accountable
Police Accountability
We cannot allow what happened in Woodlynne, Bass River, Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Baltimore to happen in Pitman. We insist on transparency and accountability from our police department.
We call on the Pitman Police Department to eliminate the use of aggressive law enforcement tactics when dealing with people who have historically been subject to police violence including racial minorities and people with mental illness, to invest in de-escalation training, to reject military tactics and equipment, and to eliminate its participation in the County SWAT team.
We call on our city, county, and state leaders to appropriate funding for mental health services, affordable housing, education, and jobs.
